Just finished it, in between Ofsted inspection and daily grind....loved it!
The characters of Elphie and Glinda were so well defined and real - mutable and steadfast at the same time, just the right muddle of flawed humanity.
Nanny was, for me, a cross between Shakespeare's nurse in R & J and 'nursie' from Blackadder - fat, coarse and soft-hearted with an iron constitusion and an inimitable capacity for self-preservation.
I even felt for Dorothy in the end - but did she really save green and envious Elphie after all?...
