3 Confidence Tricks I wish I’d known when I was younger :Three-Anchoring your confidence with James Bond!

When you  hear Ian Fleming’s famous hero announce his name as ”Bond, James Bond,” how many of you start to tingle and feel a rush of excitement?

For ”James Bond” is a name firmly anchored to exhilaration, danger and thrills. As  the words are slowly spoken it’s just like a magical trigger for EXCITEMENT and ANTICIPATION!

As I suggested on a previous blog, even his car is ‘a prayer on wheels. ANOTHER TRIGGER!

Human beings and  every other creature  on this planet are  anchored to our  previous experiences through our sensory recollection. We are wired to our memories and this wiring can be very positive or quite the opposite!

For When we remember our experiences through different sensory triggers we may find that  we are experiencing the emotions attached to these  experiences again, and again and again.

We hear a song, we inhale a smell, we taste something, and we are transported ‘back’ into the emotions attached to that original experience. it’s like a domino effect; this leads to that and so on..

Like Elephants we are wired to REMEMBER!

That is why we may say ‘I always feel X, Y Z, when I go to interview, because being interviewed reminds me of the times when I did so badly and didn’t get the job….’

It’s like NEGATIVE DOMINOES!

However we have the power to change the way we anchor our experiences and create a new response to our triggers.

Thus we can literally ‘recreate’ our experience through altering our wired reaction to our experience.

Paul McKenna, Jamie Smart, Richard Bandler, Michael Neill…all these NLP experts recommend improving your confidence through anchoring.

So here’s the trick.

1) Imagine the very best emotional state for you now, in order to deal most helpfully with the task ahead.Look back over the past when you have enjoyed this state before. and find it….

2 Now that you have found it, Really FIND the best mini second of this ideal state . CLOSE you eyes and enter into this magical  MINI SECOND so it becomes real and ALIVE  for you again.

3) Now pinch together your thumb and forefinger so that you HOLD this MINI SECOND  for THREE SECONDS and then once you have held the feeling, let it go.

4) REPEAT THREE TIMES!!! Finding the state, holding it as an anchor, and then letting it go….

5) Now test the anchor, ‘FIRING IT’ by pressing the thumb and forefinger together  and seeing if the feeling is created. If it is GREAT if not, REPEAT again so that you can capture the state.

This anchoring trick is very simple and MOST effective. And can be used to REMIND yourself of a MUCH better, more RESOURCEFUL state to be in, when YOU need it.

Remember….you can replace unhelpful emotional reactions and states with MUCH more POSITIVE states just by FIRING off anchors…

Thus you BUILD better WIRING AND RESPONSES!!!

YOU SHINE!

  1. I think the producers/writers/directors of Bond films are so aware of how the Bond name is anchored that they make sure they find a moment for it at the beginning of many of the films (or maybe the power of the original just makes me THINK this is so?)

I think we each have at least one (and probably several) of those Bond moments in our past. Perhaps we can anchor them and give them their own theme music, too. Just like ‘Bond. James Bond.’
