Summer ended and I needed to work. She gave me a job. Bella took me, Basil and the van touring. She was a celebrity in her own way. Halls filled with the hopeful, the restless and the shy. Legions of faces all eager with unfulfilled dreams climbed into corporate seats in rooms labelled ‘Conference Facilities’. Dark blue usually. Windows sadly optional. We were on tour after all .
Bella spoke in waves of nestling words, She warmed each word as we drove to each assigned place where we would market her new book on Curiosity. The book shone with a huge image of the sun, so that when you held it closer to your face, it seemed scented with Mediterranean lemons.
This book naturally contained messages that could be translated only by the curious. This was the challenge for her readers. It was a life changing adventure in paperback. Each page offered up another idea; you inhaled the idea as you read it. Cynical curious less individuals opened each page to find a scented slap on the face. For them it smelt of lost things, unfulfilled promises and lonely, dull ambition. Rotting rafts abandoned into print.
For the open minded the book wafted scents of heaven. Lemony, chocolate heaven. The daringly , deeply curious discovered scents that had been locked away in their distant hearts, memories, dream places, those ideas just at the tip of your mind. Caramel, musk and your favorite home.
I have to say Bella was a curious woman. I even suspected she was a secret faun. Something about her after dark you know. She was a demon for patchouli chocolate.

perfumed books – great idea!
The whole piece made me look forward to Summer!
