- Today, following on from Anne’s unicorn on the bus, we are going to create another extraordinary story world.
- This world will be shaped around an AVENUE or CUL DE SAC, probably in the past, where an extraordinary, magical neighbour lives at number 9!
- You’re going to explore the character of your extraordinary neighbour at number 9 and his or her effect on the Avenue’s community (and vice versa) through a storyteller who may be extraordinary too. Your story teller can be of any age, inclination or even species!
- And you’re also going to invent and describe several neighbours of number 9 on the Avenue. They may be friendly or may be otherwise inclined!
- Finally, you are going to write the opening paragraph of your Avenue tale, and baptise it with a name, so it will not go away!

Hi there Janet ,
How are you doing?
Something brought me back to WordPress and your ‘Edward Gorey Creative Writing Prompt Summary’ drew me in to type this massive HELLO!!! to you.
Expecting extraordinary adventures from No9…
Carl, a very taller than tall slender lad, a giraffe with a smile and brown slapped straight hair. His neighbours; now his friends having grown up together meet their prime 18 year old selves. Give or take a fews years here and there between them.
One sunny Sunday morning they went out for a drive in one of the lads works van. Not a big van you see, one of them resembling an older brother to the robin reliant. The lads happily piled in with Carl sticking his head through the roof and munching on the leaves of trees as they passed by. He often had his head in the trees, he liked it there except for when he runs to the shops for his mam. Often he likes to test his speed on each visit comparing it with the last one, making it all a bit of fun. Enjoying the flush of energy surging through his body and the after effects of those endorphins made his actions all the more merrier.
Some bright spark stopped off at the halfway house. Carl never ran after that. Instead he had taken to lying down horizontally hung from his hospital bed. His friends up in the clouds looking down on him cheering him on. God knows what he though whilst lying in that bed. His surviving soul sent a birthday card out to his friend entitled ‘Im weird and your wonderful’. HIs family didn’t know anything of the sort, only came out at his funeral.
Its funny how we hold onto things,! His mam; an A4 photocopy of this birthday card, treasured by his parents in the cut de sac of doom and I the memory never called again.
It all happens at No9!
Gosh!
You are a wizard Dr Lewision. Take great care of yourself and your family, but I don’t have to say that I already know that you do…
Warmest regards
Anne Marie

one sunny Sunday morning I call at No.9 to see Carl- but he’s out – gone for a drive with his neighbours- Carl’s a very taller-than-tall slender lad a giraffe with a smile and straight, brown slapped-down hair- him and his neighbours are all friends, having grown up together, you see- they’ve gone on a trip to meet their prime 18 year old selves – give or take a few years here and there between them- they’ve taken one of the lads’ works’ vans – it’s not a big van – it resembles the older brother of a Robin Reliant – so after the lads happily pile in Carl sticks his head through the roof and munches on the leaves of trees as they pass by – he often has his head in the trees as he likes it there except for when he runs to the shops for his mam – often he tests his speed on each visit comparing it with the last one making it all a bit of fun enjoying the flush of energy surging through his body the after effects of those endomorphins making his actions all the more merrier- then – Bang! some bright spark in front has stopped off at a halfer than halfway house – half of Carl never runs anywhere after that- instead he’s taken to lying down horizontally hung from his hospital bed – what a pity! God knows what he thinks whilst lying in that bed while his friends up in the clouds look down on him, cheering him on as his surviving soul sends a birthday card out to them entitled ‘I’m weird and your wonderful’ while his family, who don’t know anything of the sort, only come out to his funeral – later, his mam, in the cul de sac of doom, treasures the A4 photocopy of this birthday card sent to his parents- it’s funny how we hold onto things! I and the memory never called again.
Motto: Speed kills- careless driving kills – speeding carelessly kills quickly. Drive at 30 and live to 120.
Surreal! And very sound advice too…
older brother of a robin reliant?
No 9 is the one to watch! Thank you!
