Read through the extract from Act3,Sc4 l.1-48. Work in small groups of 4 with one person being the spokesperson and note-taker.
Imagine that you are using this section of the play in order to explore the ways in which people might experience their emotional lives and communicate with each other.
1) Note down the key words which seem to you the most important ‘lessons’ we can learn from this section of King Lear. ( in other words consider how this section of the play might illustrate emotions/feelings such as kindness or compassion etc.)
2) Note down at least THREE questions generated from your reading of the play. Consider how your group might answer these questions or whether they might remain unanswered.
3) Think about the language of this section and decide which phrase is most central to your reaction to this part of King Lear. Consider why you have made such a choice and what this emphasis might mean.
4) What does the ‘storm’ provide in the play? How is ‘space’ ( location) utilised as a means of exploring an alternative reality in King Lear? How significnat is it that charcters are in ‘exile’ from themselves? ( Think about customary environments/seats of power. ) Is the Heath a site of transition/metamorphosis/transformation?
