Blondie: Heart of Glass

Heart Of Glass”

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

In between
What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine
Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind
If I fear I’m losing you it’s just no good
You teasing like you do

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I’m the one you’re using, please don’t push me aside
We could’ve made it cruising, yeah

Yeah, riding high on love’s true bluish light

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out I had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind

This was the album (  – how vinyl dates me but cds just  don’t have the same allure or feeling) I  carried around so many times in the  Sixth form ..it became so battered that the sleeve had sellotape by UpperSixth!

Can’t remember much studying I have to say, but the important thing was to carry an album with you at all times and obviously the choice of LP mattered IMMENSELY!  So it was kate Bush, Stranglers, Clash or Elvis Costello…Sex Pistols LP sleeve was BANNED in the common room…the transgression of it all…but it was this Black and White sleeve which I recall with most affection…

Debbie Harry’s insouciant delivery on this song has never been bettered. And every time those electro -beats insinuate themselves into my head, there I am back again at Ormskirk’s coollest place..Will Parker’s record shop…up dusty stairs to Lp heaven!

That’s what ‘free study time’ meant at OGS…Will Parker’s den!
