In the mean time (not a Carol Ann Duffy pun!) I have been reading Kidnapped on a Kindle reader and despite my original negativity about ebook readers I must admit that I am enjoying the portability of the Kindle.
‘She’ looks good and the pages are easy on the eye! She’s got a red case and fits in all her protected finery in my handbag. I bought the whole of Robert Louis Stevenson and Dickens for just £3. So I have decided that I will read old ‘classics’ on the kindle and read paperbacks for the rest of my time.
This idea from RLStevenson is compelling.
His characters are caught in a tension filled choice between BLACK or WHITE words. So succinct and psychologically compelling.
What are ‘black and white words’? That is why reading matters.
You get new ideas. You find fresh ways of looking at events. You enter into minds that are not your own!
