“You have this special kind of voice that will become more and more perfect with time” – so Diana Ross once said to 23 year-old Sharleen Spiteri, the singer of Texas.
Bright light city
You’re her religion
Superstars in their own private movie
Play just like children
Lies that take her
Places she’s never seen
The kiss and tell of it all
To her seems so obscene
She’s so pretty her hair is a mess
We all love her
To that we confess
She has a halo
We really do adore her
For she has a halo
Can we touch her
For her blindness she sees much further
Like on a wide screen viewing going down on her
She’s so pretty her hair is a mess
We all love her
To that we confess
She believes in everything
And she believes in nothing in everything
She believes in everything
And she believes in nothing in everything
She believes in everything
And she believes in nothing
She has a halo

Saw Texas last year at Liverpool University and was spell-bound. And this song was anthemic for a packed-to-capacity crowd who had come to dance, shout and then dance again. The combination of revisiting the University once again after a long break and the irrepressible, arrogantly mouthy Sharleen who never leaves any doubt as to who IS TEXAS, was potent indeed. This song literally seemed to make the place shake, rattle and ROLL!
AND it’s a wicked song!
